FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – One woman is dedicating her passion for yoga to help war veterans assimilate into a healthy lifestyle.

Warriors At Ease is a non-profit organization that integrates yoga and meditation into the lives of retired military members. The organization’s approach is to “support the health, resiliency, post-traumatic growth and connection of service members, veterans and their families,” according to their website.

For Lauren Turner of Framingham, this cause is personal. After her uncle found himself at a homeless center for veterans, Turner decided to get certified with Warriors At Ease. She said this came from her own desire to serve a community that deserves so much.

“As a yoga teacher, I saw this opportunity to bring the practice of yoga to this group who are so selfless.” The teacher added that they focus on using “very specific, evidence-based and trauma informed techniques.”

These techniques are beneficial for people with limited mobility. Yoga instructors also focus on relaxation exercises for those who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which is common among war veterans. Turner said using these techniques can be extremely empowering.

“To have this as an added option on top of whatever medications or therapies that they’re in, can be a really powerful and transformative tool.”
