Kal Penn has signed on to star and produce a Hollywood movie about Raptors superfan Nav Bhatia, according to an exclusive report Thursday night by Deadline.
Both Bhatia and Penn posted their reactions to the news on Instagram.
“The Superfan is heading to Hollywood!!!” the Etobicoke-based car salesman posted.
“I’m pinching myself. I have no clue what is going on in this life of mine right now. I am blessed to continue to share my story. @kalpenn. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for accepting this role. It is an honour to have you play me.”
“Lots of us are basketball fans, but there’s only one @navbhatiasuperfan! His story of perseverance & unity is incredible, & I’m super excited to bring his super fan story to the (super?) big screen,” Penn wrote.
Bhatia’s story about becoming a superfan is also covered in a CBC documentary called “Superfan: The Nav Bhatia Story,” scheduled to air Friday at 9 p.m. on CBC.
